Phobile
Finally there's evidence that I am not the only person who thinks that there is something "not right" about Bluetooth headsets. They might be clever, but slip one on and you can't help but look like you got lost on route to a Star Trek convention.
The Phobile is a glorious alternative to all the slightly girly headsets that are around. Not so much "hands free" as "hands full" the Phobile grafts outrageously retro styling with modern mobile technology.
The idea, like all good ones, is simple. Take the chunky stylings of a 1940's bakelite handset and fill it with modern day electronics then hook it up to your phone.
Not that we think that the Phobile was designed with practicality in mind, but it is hard to deny that the old style handsets are better suited to holding up to your head (after all - they actually can reach both ear and mouth at the same time). The Phobile is also a good solution to those worried about microwaving their grey-matter through over-use of their mobile.
More to the point though, the Phobile looks great. Whether you leave it on your desk when at work, or just stick the whole thing in your pocket the looks on bystanders faces when you take a call is going to be priceless!
The Phobile is available with a range of adapters to fit differing phones & hands free kits. See the "where to buy it" links for details.
"Why is it pointless?"
It isn't the most practical thing to pop into your shirt pocket and is likely to get you odd looks whenever you use it.
"Why is it cool?"
Whole generations are growing up without knowing the satisfaction of slamming down the phone on a rude salesman. The phobile lets you relive that old-school feeling without having to sweep up the remains of your new smart phone.
